2020 has been quite a year– though we started off strong with predictions for the future of hardware and manufacturing, this year has turned out quite different than expected due to the COVID-19 pandemic. New York City was hit especially hard. When cases skyrocketed here, many hospitals experienced a shortage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE); face masks, shields, and gowns that were typically available were suddenly in short supply throughout all aspects of their supply chains.
The NYC Hardware Community took action. Over 20 partners have joined SecondMuse to respond to this crisis by tapping into global supply, pivoting domestic and local supply, sourcing solutions to financial and capital gaps, and serving as a bridge between procurement offices and a rapidly fluctuating market. Together, we helped manufacture and deliver over 1,000,000 face masks and shields to over 100 healthcare facilities. To thank you all, we’ve highlighted the stories from the NYC Hardware Community here– read about the amazing feats of the community, share with your networks, and celebrate your accomplishments together!
As we continue our quarantines and social distancing practices, remember to always celebrate the small wins! Share the stories of the NYC Hardware Community, continue to support your local communities and businesses, and most importantly– stay healthy!
From brewer’s waste upcycling to urban e-biking, the new M-Corps cohort is building a cleaner future, and tackling carbon emissions, from many angles covers more ground as we seek to reduce carbon emissions. SecondMuse is looking for six cleantech startups who are paving the way for a more sustainable future, especially those with strong teams and products who need assistance scaling up to manufacturing. Applications are open through Sept 9.
We are excited to announce that applications for the third year of the NYSERDA Manufacturing Incubator programs are now live! The two statewide programs, M-Corps run by SecondMuse here in NYC, and Hardware Scaleup run by NextCorps upstate in Rochester, are designed to help support climate tech innovation from idea to market.
